okay, well today was alright, though the beginning of my morning was like, bad lol. Really bad. basically I woke up at 7:15 and almost immediately started having extremely debilitating period cramps. like I have no idea where these came from because they literally just showed up out of nowhere and like I’ve always had bad cramps but like, these were entirely unbearable and I really just wanted to curl into a ball and cry, but it’s my second fucking day of work, I can’t do that. So I continue getting ready. I get two calls from lawyers while doing my make up, I’m to meet them at the courthouse. I was still feeling super shitty when I left the house, and last minute decided to take the bus rather than walking all the way to the train because I was in PAIN. I spent most of the bus ride much like yesterday, trying not to nod off while also being in pain and yeah, it was bad. I went to the office quickly and then over to the courthouse where I met one of the lawyers, and basically followed her around from court to court on different cases, getting to stand up with her and put my name on the record, so that was fun. I did get slightly hassled at security getting into the courthouse because security was heightened today (because of the date) and she wanted to know why I didn’t have a court ID if I was a lawyer and I ended up showing her my 711 license which has no connection to my current job but she doesn’t need to know that, and it worked so fine with me. There were a few interesting cases, one judge who refused to continue a trial when there were very legitimate reasons to do so, and then another judge that had to sort out that mess and turned to me and was like “you’re a new lawyer? pay attention, this is the kind of stuff you’ll need to do” so that was fun lol. I did see one friend working with the clerk in a courtroom, so I got to say hi to her. Once we finished in court we went over to a deposition and took notes. Another car accident case (there are a lot of those because there are a lot of car accidents) and it was interesting because it was the other side deposing their expert who contends our client couldn’t get the injuries he’s claiming from the accident, and he may very well be right on at least one of them, lol. so that will be interesting to play out. We walked back to the office, it’s like a 15 minute walk from the loop but not bad. I did see person from school number 2 during that walk, sitting outside a building I’m assuming having lunch. But we got back to the office and I was introduced to a bunch of people, then basically shown to the conference room where I’ll be located for a while along with the other new lawyers they’ve hired (who happen to all be men interestingly enough) and it was like 2 at that point so they said to grab lunch and come back to go through a depo. There’s like an italian cafe next door and I wasn’t sure if they did like, by the slice pizza because they looked like more of a sit down place, but I went in and asked and they were like well no not really but we have a special with a personal pizza and a soup we can get you in like ten minutes for like 8 bucks? so I said sure, and they gave me chicken noodle soup along with bread to dunk in it and everyone there was very sweet and wanted to know all about my new job (I was legit the only customer there, so) and the pizza was very good (not deep dish, thank god) so I get the feeling I will be frequenting their place. I went back to the office and read a very interesting deposition about a worker’s comp case basically focusing on whether it was a proper medical opinion that this guy could go back to work as a police sergeant after having a finger amputated and then him not being able to do it, so it was kinda theoretical and a bit of a mind fuck but I took notes and reported them to the lawyer who gave it to me. It was almost the end of the day at that point and not much else to do so I just read another depo on the case for information. Headed out at 5, had a bit of a brain lapse and got on the wrong train, but thankfully corrected it quickly. I got off the train and started walking towards my apartment, but then met up with Jess to get dinner now that I’m neglecting her by going to work every day. we went to that one place that does breakfast we went to once because I knew they had peaches and cream french toast I wanted to try, it was alright, and for some reason they always have like two flies flying around their restaurant which is really just odd and somewhat unsettling so idk if we’ll be back lol. Went home after and watched the rest of the new season of the great british baking show (spoilers ahead) I’m happy for Sophie, she obviously worked really hard and deserved to win. After I finished that I showered and started getting ready for bed and now I’m here. I’m gonna have to do better on getting to bed earlier if I’m gonna be waking up at 7 every day now (bleh) because now I have to meet them at the courthouse tomorrow at 8:55 and the courthouse is farther than the office, so that kills the extra 15 minutes of sleep I thought I could grab. Oh well. Hopefully I’ll get used to it and adapt, because I kinda have to. but yeah, that’s it for now. Goodnight babes. Stay wonderful.
